About the International Worker's Day: why the skirt in the workplace makes you think to... an holiday?

It has happened to me on several occasions, in the workplace, to be asked a question to which I did not know what to answer: I did not understand its meaning, nor the logic that generated it. And I was left speechless.
However, my surprise at this request upon arrival at the office was surpassed only by my own response, coming directly from the belly, without passing through the filter of reason.

Question: "What happens today that you wear a skirt?"
Answer: "I mean to build a career!"

Yes, I know: mine was not Bon Ton's best performance, but I instinctively reacted to what for me was yet another misplaced provocation, as there is nothing in my attitude different from the usual.

Is it so strange that a woman wears a typically feminine garment in her workplace? in my case, a normal clerical role.
Why does wearing a skirt automatically mean that it is for an extraordinary event?
How much does the cultural factor affect the reading of the dress code? and how much does the personal factor affect?

And mainly, how much we women in particular, are aware of what we arouse and do we communicate with our appearance, in which the outfit plays an important role?
